Both of Northants Baseball Club’s squads, Gold and Maroon, took to the field yesterday for their pre-season friendly matches, marking the first live action of the year for the teams.
Despite both sides suffering defeats — the competitive Gold team falling 15-5 and the development-focused Maroon team losing 12-4 — the day was seen as a positive step forward as the club builds towards the upcoming season.
With several new faces on both rosters, the games provided an important opportunity for players to get a taste of competitive baseball. Coaches from both squads praised the effort and energy shown throughout the day.
“Results weren’t the focus,” said Jack Betts (Team Manager). “It was all about giving new players real-game experience and starting to build chemistry on the field. We’re excited by the potential we saw out there.”
The Northants Gold and Maroon teams will continue training this week on Tuesday in preparation for the start of the regular season, which kicks off on April 13th, with Maroon at Home hosting Cambridge and Gold Away at Norwich.
