With Northants at the top of the leaderboard, only due to having played 2 extra games, Northants had the home field advantage to take both wins and take the top spot for definite.
For the first time in front of spectators, Northnats took the field for game one. With Simon shaw on the mound and a string start with a quick first out, Cambridge came out swinging and quickly put 5 runs on the board. Northnats almost matched it with 4 running in the first inning.
Northants dropped behind over the next couple of innings and so manager Jack Betts Brough in Yulyn Helm to pitch to try and stop some runs.
Northnats ended game one with a Win coming back from 1 run behind to win by one run.
Game 2, Northants went ahead and with Cambridge star pitcher seeming pitching poorly compared to usual, Northants had an opportunity.
Cambridge battled back eventually taking the lead in the third. Northnats gave up a bases loaded opportunity and events, after the winning run initially cross the plate in the bottom of the 5th, only for the ball to be called foul, the final batter was called out and the winning run left on base.
Cambridge and Northants are still neck and neck with only two gams left this season (3 for Cambridge)) - its now unlikely the league will be decided on wins (as such) but it’s now just a stamina race between Northnats and the Royals in “who will drop the first game”…!?
