A double victory for the Northampton Centurions against the Norwich Warriors propelled the team to the top of the league standings. With these two crucial wins under their belt, the Centurions have solidified their position as a force to be reckoned with and move further up the UK power rankings.
It wasn't an easy battle, with the Centurions only winning both games with a one run lead. The first inning in the first game saw the Warriors go one up, however the Centurions scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning. The Warriors remained static and the Centurions stormed ahead in the bottom of the third. The fourth inning saw the Warriors claw back five runs and put them in the lead. In the final half inning, the Centurions dug deep and scored a further two runs and took the game.
The first inning for the second game saw neither team score. The Warriors again took the lead as the game entered the inning with the Warriors scoring four runs with the Centurions scoring only three. The Centurions hardened their resolve and only allowed the Warriors to gain an extra run whilst they scored a further five. The fourth inning saw the Centurions take another five runs whilst the Warriors scored three. The Warriors scored a whopping five runs in the top of the fifth inning, meaning both teams were tied! The game ended when #2 Ross Barnes hit a sacrificed fly ball to right field allowing #14 Yulyn Helm to cross home plate and score the winning run!
The Centurions stellar play on both the offense and defence has set them apart from their competition, and they have proven themselves to be a formidable opponent for any team int he league. With their sights set on further success, the Centurions are poised to make a strong push for the top title this season.
This double -win pushes them ahead of the league rivals, the Cambridge Royals and they now sit proudly at the top. The Centurions can't afford to sit back and relax quite yet with a further three game days left to play...they have everything to play for!
