Centurions played Cambridge Away today in a double win for the club.

A very successful trip to Coldham’s Common for the Centurions today. After the bats were silenced by Long Eaton’s pitching last week, they were firing all day at Cambridge. Game One set the tone with the Centurions eleven to zip ahead behind pitcher Gareth Beeby after three innings and the game finally ended at a score of 24-5 with Cambridge rallying behind some big hitting late on, but the Centurions prevailed.
Game Two followed a similar pattern, this time with Nick Russell on the mound. Early runs were again the key with the Centurions well ahead after three innings and Cambridge unable to catch them. Final score Centurions 11-2 Royals.
Despite the fairly one sided scorelines, the game was played in an excellent spirit and Cambridge skipper Dan Sewell was able to make nine changes to his lineup between games one and two, which speaks volumes for how Cambridge are building the sport.
On a less happy note, we’re sending our best wishes to Cambridge player Laura who suffered a nasty ankle injury and we hope she’s back soon. We can only hope that the scenes on the American Football pitch adjacent to the baseball field with ambulances, paramedics and the police in attendance were not signs of something extremely serious.
